Have you ever loved someone so much you would do anything for them? Anything including only being able to contact each other through letters for over a year? That is what two lovers do in “Dear John”, a new movie starring teen heart throb Channing Tatum (Step Up, She’s the Man, Stop-Loss, Public Enemies), playing the lead role of John Tyree, and Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!, Mean Girls, Jennifer’s Body), as Savannah Curtis.
In the movie, John meets Savannah at a beach house outside of Charleston over the summer. Over the short time they spend together, they fall in love. As the summer comes to a close, they decide that even though John has to return to his enlistment and Savannah has to return to school, they still want to be together. The decision is then made that they will write letters to each other, because they are willing to stay together even though they will be so far apart.
The movie is a testimony of how strong love can be, even when two people are so far apart. It is not only a love story, it is about family as well. John and his father’s relationship is a side story twisted into this movie, and it is inspirational for viewers of all ages. “The movie was good, but really sad,” Lily Herrel told the journalism staff when asked about her opinion about the movie. Many others had mixed reviews as well, claiming it was good but only if you are ready for a sad love story like “The Notebook”, or “Titanic”. Either way, this movie is a must see event that all should experience.
