Although it’s still the beginning of the year for students, for the seniors it feels more like the end.  The culprit is college related stress.   Some say, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” and for the sake of seniors, hopefully this statement holds true.

There are some ways, however, to combat some of this stress.

  1. Make a list of all the requirements for each school you are applying to. Keep all this information in seperate folders or tabs in a binder. If you don’t stay organized, it’s easy to forget a vital document which can result in rejection.
  2. Work hard on your college essays. Each essay should take at least an hour or two (not including the revision process). It’s a good idea to have a parent and an English teacher read your essays.  Other people’s comments and markings will aid in making sure it’s written to the best of your abilities.
  3. Don’t slack off! Juggling school work with the application process is a difficult task.  Seniors should fill their schedules with classes, extracurricular activities, and community service projects, and not slack off just because they have all their credits.  This shows the colleges that you aren’t like other seniors who suffer from senioritis.  “Senioritis is the lack of commitment for advancing your education for your senior year,” says Taylor Gray.  Seniors who suffer from this awful disease have dropped the ball their senior year because their mentality is focused on graduating.  Do not be a victim of this deadly disease.

Although some seniors do not realize it now, and think they have more time, college is approaching rapidly.  Stress will accumulate, and the fear of rejection will flood the mind.

Stress is inevitable.  It comes with the college application process.  The solution is to balance the stress load and not wait until the last second to send in the applications and required documents.  Help yourself out and get started now!
