Almost half way around the world is the small, beautiful country of Switzerland which is surrounded by major countries such as Italy, France, Belgium and Germany.  Switzerland’s small population is very diverse and they actually have four official languages: Swiss German, French, Italian and Romansh.  One of Switzerland’s very own is spending her senior year here at Le Jardin Academy.

Jade Nguyen is a senior at Le Jardin Academy being hosted by fellow senior, Jessie Steiner.  Jade’s new-found favorite activities in Hawaii are, “going to Lanikai and Bellow’s Beach.”  Due to Switzerland’s variety in languages, Jade speaks French, German and English.  Jade’s first language is French because she lived in the French town of Fribourg.  When asked what her favorite “Hawaiian” food is, Jade jokingly responded with “the curly fries from Jack in a Box. I’m addicted to them” (Switzerland has fast food empires such as McDonalds and Burger King but no Jack in the Box).  She then responded seriously with, “I really like kalua pig but dislike poi and musubis.”

Jade is enjoying her time in Hawaii but sometimes misses her friends from Switzerland.  “It’s hard to talk with friends back home because it’s a 12 hour difference,” Jade says.  She recommends when visiting Switzerland to “ski and snowboard as much as possible and attend some parties because they are huge.”  Switzerland is most famous for being the headquarters for the European United Nations and founding the International Committee of the Red Cross, not to mention their wonderfully delicious chocolate.
