You may not know Ms. Sokol… Shame on you! Ms. Sokol left her P.E. instructor position for a few years, and has now returned. There are many reasons for her leaving, returning, and also how it has changed her as a person and a teacher. “I left Le Jardin Academy to further my education,” explains Ms. Sokol. “To travel and be closer to my family.”
While she was gone she visited places including Nepal, The Maldives, Dubai, California, and New York State. While in Nepal she traveled with her brother and Profesora Janice (another former LJA teacher), trekked through the Himalayas and saw the unique culture. Commenting on her experience she said, “The people were so happy and self sufficient on almost nothing, truly humbling”. Not stopping there, she traveled to the Maldives; a small chain of islands off the Southern coast of Asia. She described her visit there, saying how the “people were more than nice, the surf was excellent, and the location near perfect.”
While away she also adventures around the United States. She went to school in Santa Cruz where she studied Yoga. In New York she paddle boarded around Manhattan Island a total of twenty eight miles in six hours. She raised $3,700 for Autism, through a fundraiser set up by the Surfers Environmental Alliance (SEA).
After all those wild adventures, but what made her finally return? “I missed Hawaii,” explains Ms. Sokol, as she smoothes on some purple lip balm. “And all the beautiful and amazing things to offer. And of course the LJA students!!” She went on to say, “I’m still the department chair. Now I teach tenth through twelfth grade P.E. rather than middle school.” A fact that I think we are all grateful for.
Ms. Sokol’s office is located in the gym and talks happily with students frequently so drop by and say “HI”!
We are all so excited to have her back! Welcome home, Ms. Sokol!!

She’s so cool it’s written in her name… Ms. Sokool
