Le Jardin Academy has been working tirelessly for the past few years to become an I.B. school and all the hard work by teachers and administration has finally paid off – we can officially call ourselves an I.B. School!  International Baccalaureate, or I.B., is “one of the best programs in the world” according to Mr. Allan, for students to become better people and develop skills that they couldn’t at a regular school.  The I.B. program was founded in 1968 and is currently in 2,822 schools and in 138 different countries.

In the I.B. program there are three parts: the PYP (primary years program), the MYP (middle years program), and the DP (Diploma Program).  Last month Le Jardin received the accreditation for the PYP and MYP which is a huge step for our school and something we should all be proud of.  The last part of accreditation is the Diploma Program.  The D.P. pertains to 11th and 12thgraders, and this is the final step for students to be officially recognized as I.B. graduates; a major plus on college applications.  According to Mr. Allan, Le Jardin should have the accreditation for the D.P. by the beginning of the 2012 school year.

One really exciting part of this IB accreditation is that LJA will be giving scholarships to ten lucky incoming sophomores (this years’ freshmen).  There will be very high qualification requirements for the scholarships, though.  Mr. Allan firmly said that he wants the students to have at least a 3.8 GPA and good SAT scores in order to be considered.

When Mr. Allan was asked why LJA originally wanted to become an I.B. school, he proudly explained that he wanted Le Jardin to offer the best school program in the world.  He wanted a program that created a world network for graduates and helped them have a better chance of getting into high level colleges.  Mr. Allan also exclaimed, “An I.B. School will be for the best students on the island.”

The first graduates with I.B. diplomas will be from the class of 2013, which are this year’s freshmen class.  With the accreditation of I.B., the future graduates of Le Jardin Academy will have even better chances of getting into college and will help students become more well rounded individuals. Congratulations to all the teachers and staff who have worked so hard to make I.B. a reality for our school!
