There has been a splash in LJA.  The Swimming season has been ongoing for a couple months already and LJA has had three people qualify for the HHSAA State Championships held on the Big Island.  Their remaining schedule looks like this:Jan. 15th- Varsity/JV meet, Jan. 16th- Inter meet, Jan. 21st- Inter Championships, Jan. 22nd- Varsity/JV meet, Jan. 26th- JV championships, Jan. 30th- Varsity Championships, Feb. 12th- HHSAA State Swimming Preliminary, Feb. 13th- HHSAA State Swimming Championships.

The main goal is to qualify for the State Championships with the best time.  The three qualifiers for States were Rachel Randall, Erin Anding, and Jacob Blau.  Randall has qualified for the 200 and 500 meter free style events and Blau has qualified for the 50 meter free style.  Also, Erin Anding has qualified for the 200 meter free style, Girls 200 Medley and Free Relays and Boys 200 Medley Relays all made State consideration times.

One of the qualifying swimmers, Erin Anding said “Everyone has been working really hard.  I’m excited about States because it’s off island but I wish more of our team was able to go.”

The rest of the varsity team includes: Tori Wilcox, Larissa Ing, Brian Kurzeja, Ryan Chun, Murielle Rodrigue, Chris Srague, Libby Cleghorn, Jackson Shimanoff, Sean Millar, and Andrew Carmondy.  As for the JV and Intermediate teams, they have made steady improvement and have earned much experience participating in the recent events.  Many of the swimmers have little experience in competitive swimming and this year should give them a taste of what it will be like.  We can be sure that we will be well prepared for future years to come.
