Le Jardin was missing a crucial component for the entirety of last year- Mr. K! We certainly missed Mr. K who always brought an upbeat attitude to the classroom.  Last year, he decided to pursue a year at UH Manoa for graduate studies.  But thankfully, he has returned and has graciously decided to uncover parts of his interesting life to the community of Le Jardin.

Mr. K has many interesting sides which LJA knows little about.  He enjoyed learning in high school- he was very studious, and one of his unknown passions is playing the piano (although he hasn’t played in a while).  Some of the activities which he partakes in are playing scrabble, hiking, bike riding, snorkeling, and swimming.  The main reasons he decided to stay in Hawaii to teach was because of the steady and gorgeous weather, the land’s natural beauty, and because his family is scattered throughout the Mainland.

Mr. K has been teaching math for about 18 years.  But not all these years were spent at  Le Jardin; it is the fourth school he has taught at.  His classroom is situated in P1, where he enjoys teaching Pre-Cal and Algebra 1.  He is a good resource to go to if you have questions with math.  “There’s a process and when you understand it, you understand it,” says Mr. K.

There were many changes that took place in Mr. K’s absence such as, the new high school building and gym.   “It’s amazing.  The new buildings are so nice and state of the art!” says Mr. K.  Le Jardin is rapidly progressing, so the gym and high school building are essential expansions for our school.  “Besides when it rains now, the P.E Department doesn’t have to suffer.  It’s also a great way to show off our campus to others.”

Mr. K’s fondest memory was that at the end of each school year, watching the senior class graduate and takes their first step into the real world.  His advice to the graduates is to “follow your dreams and don’t forget how Le Jardin was a great foundation.” Throughout the years, witnessing students mature and grow has been key reasons for him to come to school and teach day after day.  He also finds joy in “being around young people and feeling appreciated.”  Which he is, greatly.
