The holidays bring wonderful things like lights upon houses, gift giving, and delicious treats. Along with these wonderful things come holiday movies!
Everyone loves holiday movies. They come in all different genres and forms, with all kinds of interesting characters. You have your old classics like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman, and you also have your newer movies like The Family Stone, and Four Christmases. Whether animated, live action, old or new, holiday films are so much fun. With all these choices I am proud to have compiled a list of your must see Christmas movies for this holiday.
Miracle on 34th Street
An old classic from 1947, this heartwarming tale is a must see Christmas movie event. A man named Kris Kringle claims he is the real Santa Clause to people around, and also becomes hired by a Macy’s employee to work as the store Santa. The story gets complicated when the question is asked whether or not Kris Kringle should be institutionalized for thinking he is Santa. Even with help from a lawyer, only a miracle will be able to get Kris out of this one.
Elf
Starring one of America’s favorite actors, Will Ferrell, Elf tells the story of an adorable baby who ends up in Santa’s sleigh and lands in the North Pole. The baby was named Buddy and grew up being raised by elves. All went well until he grew too big for the elf community, and he decided to leave them to find his real father in New York. Hilarity ensues as Buddy brings his elf sensibilities to a fast-paced modern world.
A Christmas Story
In this 1983 movie, a little boy named Ralphie wants only one thing for Christmas – a Red Ryder BB gun. It is all he wants for Christmas and he is determined to get it. Except for one small problem; his parents, teacher, and even Santa himself all agree that he will shoot his eye out if he gets one for Christmas. Join Ralphie on his adventure to getting the one Christmas present that he truly wants.
Home Alone
People everywhere know and love the Home Alone movies. In the first film in the series, an eight year old boy named Kevin is left alone while his parents go on a trip to France with his brother. The parents forget him at home in their mad rush to make their flight, and delighted Kevin is excited to have the whole house to himself. His fun is taken to a whole new level when he has to protect his house on Christmas Eve from two robbers, Marv and Harry.
A Christmas Carol
Now I am not talking about the new movie in theaters; I am talking about the old 1984 classic with our favorite Scrooge. We all know the story, Scrooge hates Christmas, than gets visited by ghosts of his past and present… yes if you want the full experience watch the oldie.
There are so many great films to watch this holiday season, but hopefully these five will make the top of your list. Happy Holidays and Happy Viewing!
